Post-flood disease warning: one summary post and one leptospirosis sequence

A summary post covering the five diseases that follow a flood, plus a dedicated three-panel sequence on leptospirosis.

My roleVisual designer and layout. The medical content follows the standing post-disaster disease control guidance; I set the message order and redrew the illustrations.

The situation

A flood leaves standing water, rubbish and dead rats in the same space where residents cook and store food. The warnings circulating named leptospirosis without explaining where it comes from, so residents could not tell which part of their daily routine had to change.

Who it was for

Residents of dense neighbourhoods reading on a phone after the water has receded, often standing in a communal kitchen or in front of a house being cleaned out.

Approach

I split the job in two. One summary post carries the five post-flood diseases and five preventive actions, so a resident has the whole picture in one screen. Leptospirosis then gets its own three-panel sequence, because the one disease transmitted through rat urine needs the transmission chain explained rather than merely named.

Craft and compliance

4:5 for the summary post and three 1:1 panels for the sequence. The illustrations are vector drawings rather than photographs, because this material also gets printed in black and white at evacuation posts. Each panel carries one block of message on its own background colour, so the order reads even at a glance.

Outcome

The three leptospirosis panels have been published through the institution's official channel, and the summary post has not been published yet.

Evidence The only evidence is the material files, plus the publication number for the part that has been published. There is no case data before and after, so a fall in cases cannot be claimed.

Reflection

In the first version all five diseases got equal space, which made the most dangerous one look no more serious than a skin rash. Giving it a sequence of its own made the priority obvious.
